| The U.S. shortage of trained allied health care professionals is growing more acute and has long-term implications for quality health care delivery. Many organizations, with St. John’s Health Network’s help, are utilizing foreign-born health professionals as part of a larger solution. In doing so, they have proven that these professionals can make a significant contribution to their organizations, improving patient care and overall business operations.
We have assisted more than 50 health care facilities with their hiring and immigration processing of foreign-born health professionals. To date, we have helped more than 1,300 professionals come to work in the United States with many more on the way.
St. John’s believes that any long-term benefits to the U.S. health care market can only be achieved by reinvesting in the countries from which these professionals originate. This benefits the source countries by generating more health professionals to meet their rising needs and helps the U.S. maintain its supply of qualified health professionals.
Ethics
St. John’s Health Network is proud to endorse and have been involved in authoring the Voluntary Code of Ethical Conduct for the Recruitment of Foreign-Educated Nurses to the United States. SJHN is in full compliance.
SJHN further extends the Code to govern all its work with all allied healthcare professionals throughout the world.
The Code of Conduct provides guidelines that aim to ensure that the growing practice of recruiting foreign-educated nurses is done in a responsible and ethical manner. It is designed to increase transparency and accountability throughout the process of international recruitment and ensure adequate orientation for nurses. It also provides guidance on ways to ensure recruitment is not harmful to source countries.
The Code of Conduct has been endorsed by numerous groups including the American Hospital Association, the American Nurses Association, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), and multiple associations of internationally educated nurses.

St. John's was born out of the efforts to manage the immigration process in an open, controlled and accountable manner. Today, St. John’s oversees everything from the identification and pre-screening of candidates to managing the credentialing process to overseeing all legal matters.
